Title: Artificial intelligence-enhanced hypnosedation to improve patient experience in dentistry: a case series

Abstract:
This case series explores the potential to use artificial intelligence (AI) to assist personalised hypnosedation during adult and paediatric dental procedures. It demonstrates the possibility to enhance the patient experience, especially for those who are anxious, have had previous negative dental experience, or require more assistance to relax. By creating tailored scripts based on the interests and experiences of each patient, artificial intelligence helped clinicians deliver guided relaxation that felt familiar and emotionally safe. Two patients with quite diverse backgrounds received dental treatment with the use of nitrous oxide inhalation sedation alongside artificial intelligence-assisted hypnosedation. In both cases, the personalised narrative helped the patients relax into sedation smoothly and remain co-operative throughout treatment. Their description of the experience was that it was calm, pleasant and much less distressing than previous dental visits. Clinicians also reported reduced cognitive burden since having a structured script allowed them to concentrate on the procedure whilst maintaining a calm and supportive atmosphere. These findings suggest that artificial intelligence-enhanced hypnosedation may offer a practical, low-cost, and highly adaptable approach to improve comfort, co-operation, and overall patient experience in dentistry.
