SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme

The scheme designed to support sedation facilities meet the national standard.

The SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme (SSPS) is based on contemporaneous national standards and guidance. This is: Conscious Sedation in the Provision of Dental Care: Report of the Intercollegiate Advisory Committee for Sedation in Dentistry of the Dental Faculties of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons and the Royal College of Anaesthetists (2020) The evaluators do not assess to any other local or otherwise adopted protocols.

A SAAD Evaluator can visit your practice and evaluate in accordance with the SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme. A report will be provided after the visit, and practices meeting the standard will receive a certificate as confirmation.

The evaluation process is outlined on page 5 of the SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme, and in summary on page 31.

Once your practice is judged to have met the standard you will receive a SAAD certificate as confirmation.

If you wish to proceed with arranging an evaluation please complete the initial enquiry form below. Due to the high demand for this service please contact SAAD with as much notice as possible for your requested evaluation.

We will need further information and documents from you, and your SAAD contact will guide you through this process, as well as providing an invoice for the fee payable. On receipt of payment and documentation SAAD will allocate an evaluator who will contact you.

If you are unsure as to how to proceed, at any stage, please contact fiona@saad.org.uk
