The SAAD Teaching Faculty has oral surgeons, paediatric dentists, special care dentists, clinical psychologists, GDPs, dental nurses, peripatetic sedationists and resuscitation officers - all experienced teachers.
This training scheme is STAC accredited and is suitable for dentists who are new to sedation, and can nominate a suitable supervisor for their supervised clinical experience.
The two day in person course provides the knowledge and skills training for for new starters.
This is followed by the online assessment, completed at a time to suit you. You will need to submit a completed supervisor nomination form (SNF), and receive confirmation of approval before you can complete the assement.
During the supervised clinical experience you will complete an SAS portfolio for each of the sedation techniques you are completing the scheme for.
Finally, to complete the scheme you will submit your SAS portfolio(s) for moderation before November 2026.
So, if you are new to sedation completing the SAS scheme is the ideal option for you!

It is possible to nominate additional supervisors by emailing a completed form for each supervsior.
SAAD members are entitled to a discount of £30 - members must be logged in to claim this discount. The discounted fee will show after you press 'book now'.

Re ILS training - practitioners must be able to provide age-appropriate immediate life support as defined by the main elements of the Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS and PILS training programmes. It is not essential to undertake a Resuscitation Council (UK) accredited ILS/PILS course. Alternative courses with equivalent content which are adapted to the needs of dental practice are acceptable: these might also include the management of common sedation, medical and dental emergencies. This training should be renewed annually.
