Why have an external evaluation?
This validates your sedation practice demonstrating your commitment to quality assurance based on accepted standards. A self-check using a list, either alone or with an adviser not meeting the approved person specification is ineffective. SAAD’s sedation validation options provide a robust and properly structured confirmation of safe sedation provision giving reassurance to both providers and contractors.
Which certificate do I need?

The Safe Sedation Certificate (SSC) is the most economical process for single techniques and is a web-based evaluation.
SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme is a more detailed evaluation with a facility visit and evaluation of live cases.
The IACSD standards document that ‘there must be evidence of regular scenario-based team training in the management of potential complications associated with conscious sedation’.
To facilitate this, SAAD has put together some scenarios and prompts covering sedation related complications, that can be adapted for use by individual sedation teams.
Members of SAAD are free to use these resources. You need to ensure that you keep contemporaneous evidence of these practise sessions.
