Course Details
- This course takes an in-depth look at behaviour management strategies, inhalation and intravenous sedation and general anaesthetic in paediatric dental care. The importance of behavioural strategies such as hypnosis, positive psychology and mindfulness, inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and general anaesthetic will be discussed.
- Additionally, practical aspects related to running a paediatric service, training and research in the field and the roles of dental professionals in managing the paediatric patient and their parents / guardians will be tackled, focusing on evidence-based guidelines and best practices.
- You will be presented with a series of presentations with elements of interaction.
- CPD will be provided for attendance.
- A hot lunch and coffee breaks are included.
Aims, Objectives and Learning Outcomes
This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of behaviour management, inhalation and intravenous sedation and general anaesthetic in paediatric dental care. It highlights positive psychology and hypnosis, the role of training and research and discusses the role of dental professionals in anxiolysis for paediatric patients and their parents / guardians, focusing on evidence-based guidelines and best practices.
During this course learners will be able to:
- Identify methods of reducing anxiety to improve cooperation of children for dental treatment.
- Review current guidelines and evidence-based practices for paediatric dental care under inhalation sedation
- Recognise important factors in the assessment and provision of paediatric dental care under intravenous sedation
- Understand the significance of medical factors, monitoring and recovery for paediatric patients undergoing a general anaesthetic for dental care.
- Gain an insight into research, training and service development relevant to paediatric dental pain and anxiety management.
- Learn from the experiences of dentists and anaesthetists in overcoming barriers to care in Paediatric Dentistry.
